Boracay Island picture, Boracay, Philippines

Boracay Island is the gem of the Philippines. Only seven kilometres long, the island is surrounded by palm fringed beaches and clear turquoise waters.

With its beauty and vibrant atmosphere, there is something here for everyone.

Boracay's famous White Beach is a 4 km long stretch of white sand lined with restaurants, bars, hotels and shops. It has been voted the most beautiful beach in the world in 2007 by Yahoo Travel.  The two main and largest beaches in Boracay are White Beach in the west, and Bulabog Beach on the east side of the island. The centre part of the island is less than a kilometre across, and you can walk from Bulabog Beach to White Beach in less than ten minutes!

Boracay Island, on the east coast, is attracting water sport enthusiasts from all over the globe as it has become Asia's leading
windsurfing and kite boarding beach. Nowadays several top international windsurfing and kite boarding (kitesurfing) competitions are held here annually.

With its steady onshore breezes, Bulabog Beach Boracay  is famous for kiteboarding / kitesurfing and  windsurfing from around October to May each year.

Other water sports to be found in Boracay include jet skis, banana boats, scuba diving and parasailing.

On land there is a beautiful 18-hole Golf Course as well as horse riding, yoga, cycling, hiking, gyms and much much more.

Relax and unwind in the world class spas, enjoy beach massages, sunset cruises, sunbathing or simply do nothing at all.

Whatever your pleasure, Boracay is an environment that replenishes the spirit, offering you the freedom to release your creativity and the space to be who you really are.

Our Boracay Mayor is working hard with local businesses, corporate foundations and environmental organizations to sustain and improve the environment in Boracay, including its fragile marine and terrestrial environment. Recently, a P60,000,000 artificial reef project to conserve and rehabilitate Boracay Island's coral reefs was launched. Last  month, private groups and the local government deployed about 121 artificial reef domes covering 120 square meters of Boracay's coastal waters as part of the coastal management program to protect, sustain and enhance the island's natural environment. The artificial reef domes were placed in water 12 - 50 feet deep along Boracay's beach front. They are made of a special calcium-rich concrete to help boost coral growth and serve as a sanctuary for fish.

Various new environmental activities and awareness programs have been implemented in Boracay since 2010, such as the  anti-littering and anti-smoking canpaigns, water and waste-water management, solid waste management and coastal management. One of the huge new projects was the P78 million project undertaken by the Boracay Island Water Company to provide reliable and quality water and efficent waste water treatment.

Boracay Island's main income is from tourism, and so it is great that private individuals, concern groups, businesses and government are working together to preserve, protect and improve the environment now and for future generations to come.

Protecting Boracay’s environment is, indeed, everyone’s concern. With its enchanting beauty, the island of Boracay remains as the unbeatable tourist destination in the country and the most recognizable tropical paradise in Asia and one of the top tourist destinations in the world.
